The New York Times recently presented an interactive photo-essay on the 36 Maya Achí women and their struggle to access justice for the human rights violations the women suffered during Guatemala’s Internal Armed Conflict. .
The piece containing photographs and video by Victor J. Blue and text by Annie Correal highlights the courage of the women to come forward and speak out. It also traces their experience of coming together to build a case with with the Rabinal Community Legal Clinic (ABJP) and the many setbacks and victories they have achieved in their ongoing fight for truth, justice, and historical memory since 2011.
