Some 23.4% of the population of Guatemala does not have the minimum needed to cover the basic food basket. In rural areas, where climate change destroys crops, it is worse. This is the Guatemala that goes hungry.
The Food Security and Nutrition Assessment (2018) conducted by the Government of Guatemala, WFP and UNICEF, determined that three million people were in a situation of moderate and severe food insecurity in the country. Two percent of children were in a situation of acute malnutrition in areas affected by droughts, exacerbated by climate change, in the Dry Corridor.
